Nearly 25,000 More People Apply to Be Added to Mon State Voter List

Two district election commissions in Mon State have reported that nearly 25,000 people have applied to have their names added to the state’s list of eligible voters after learning that they had not been included in the final draft.

 

According to the Thaton District Election Commission’s secretary Thet Naing Oo, 10,458 people have applied with what is known as “Form 3” to add their names to the list in the district’s four townships.

 

He added that they had not been included in the “final round” of the eligible voter list.

 

Thet Naing Oo also said that more than 1,200 people applied to have names removed from the voter list, using “Form 4.” More than 3,000 people also applied to have a name or their personal information corrected.

 

In Mawlamyine District, where there are six townships, more than 14,500 people applied to be added to the voter list.

 

“A total of 14,591 people have applied to be included on the eligible voter list by applying with Form 3 in Mawlamyine district,”Htin Kyaw, the secretary of the district’s election commission, told NMG.

 

In Mawlamyine, around 1,600 people applied to have names removed and 3,200 applied for corrections to existing names.

 

The local election commissions published the voter list from October 1 until October 14, an encouraged people to check their names on the list in person and online.

 

According to Mon State’s election commission, there are total of more than 1.8 million eligible voters in the state for the election this year, scheduled for November 8.
