Myitkyina District Election Commission restricted campaigns in some areas for security concerns

The Myitkyina District Election Commission has restricted campaign in some areas under Myitkyina Township, Kachin State due to security concerns.

Although the by-election will be held in Sinbo, Ho Kat, and Ti Yang Zup villages for the vacant seat in the Amyotha Hluttaw, campaigns are not allowed in these villages.

The Kachin Democratic Party (KDP)’s candidate U Gumgrawng Awng Hkam said there are difficulties as the candidates have to inform the election commission within three days (72 hours) before campaigning in an area and the commission has enforced stricter rules and restricted areas for the campaign.

“We have already gone to Sinbo. We didn’t go to Ho Kat Village as it has been restricted by the commission. We are trying to go to Ti Yang Zup,” Daw Yam Hkawn, a candidate from the National League for Democracy (NLD), said to K.N.G

Six candidates are running for the Amyotha Hluttaw seat in Myitkyina Township in the by-election, which will be held on November 3.
