Maung Sar Ga — On the 79th anniversary of Union Day, the junta's air force bombed Kyauk Taw and Mrauk U townships in Rakhine State. At least seven civilians, including an infant, were killed, and ten civilians sustained injuries.
Four civilians in Paik Thay ward, neighboring Kyauk Taw located along the upper Kaladan River, were killed.
The victims are Ko San Win (23 years old), Ko Nyi Chay (31 years old) from Paik Thay ward, and Daw Ma Saw Hla (61 years old) and Daw Aye Nu (53 years old), both women who are IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) from Byin Pru village in Sittwe Township.
On Union Day (February 12) at around 9:15 pm, a fighter jet targeted Kyauk Taw after flying through Min Bya, Kyauk Taw, and Mrauk U townships, finally dropping many bombs.
Locals reported that four people, including two females, died immediately due to the bombing in Kyauk Taw. Another woman was seriously injured when a bomb was dropped on a neighborhood of the city.
Some houses in the area were damaged in the airstrikes.
Additionally, at around 9:20 pm, a fighter jet dropped two more bombs near Mrauk U's middle market, causing a loud explosion and forcing the local residents to flee to safer places.
Three family members, including a month-old infant who were IDPs, were killed. However, Narinjara confirmed the deaths but was unable to receive their names.
At least 10 people in Kyauk Taw and Mrauk U were injured in the airstrike, with some sustaining serious injuries.
The military commission often targets the urban residential areas and marketplaces of the Rakhine region, which are otherwise not related to the Arakan Army (AA) or their offensive actions. They aim to frighten the locals who show sympathy to the revolutionary forces.
