Over 80 civilian homes in three villages in Hpruso Township, Karenni State, were burned down by military junta troops during military operations carried out between March and May, according to a statement released by the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) on June 3.
According to the statement, on March 28, a junta column burned down 16 houses in Bukhu village, Hpruso Township. Later, on May 6, junta troops also burned down more than 60 homes in Htarleh village.
Additionally, on May 7, four houses in Prehtaw village, located near Htarleh, were also set on fire and destroyed.
The statement also mentioned that ongoing military movements by junta forces, including troops and outposts stationed along the Hpruso–Bawlakhe main road, have led to clashes with revolutionary forces in the area.
A local resident told Kantarawaddy Times that junta forces have continued conducting drone surveillance and drone bomb attacks in villages throughout Hpruso Township.
Residents of villages located near the military columns have been forced to flee and take shelter in nearby forests and mountainous areas. According to the displacement assistance group CTER-Karenni, these displaced civilians are currently in need of shelter and food supplies.
