At least 2,600 women were detained nationwide from February 1 last year, when the regime took power, to the end of November 2022, the Burmese Women’s Union reported on December 1.

Among them, nine women were sentenced to death, and 11 others were sentenced to life imprisonment.

During the coup, 352 women were killed by airstrikes and heavy weapons fired by the Military Council, according to the statement.

These data are collected by the Burmese Women’s Union (BWU) and the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), and the figure may be higher on the ground.

On the other hand, women are subjected to torture, sexual abuse, and human rights violations in detention centers and prisons after being arrested.
