The National League for Democracy (NLD) formed an inquiry committee last week, comprising of 3 members, to investigate allegations surrounding the Mon State Chief Minister.

The group was formed with NLD’s central executive members, with U Nyan Win as the group leader, Dr. Myo Nyunt and U Kyaw Ho.

“We have received letters from the public concerning what happens in Mon State [regarding the chief minister’s cases]. They reported what allegedly happens. Nevertheless, to find out whether the reports are correct and if it is still occurring, we formed this inquiry committee. The committee will start the investigation soon,” said U Nyan Win, of NLD.

In addition to the Mon State Chief Minister’s case, the group will also investigate the allegations concerned with the Tanintharyi Region’s Hluttaw speaker and deputy speaker, according to the NLD’s released statement on November 28.

U Nyan Win added that the inquiry committee will meet with most of the people, potentially all of them if necessary, who have reported about the Chief Minister.

The public has condemned allegations that during the 8 months after being sworn in, the Chief Minister has sometimes been absent from the Hluttaw Conference, while he is also being accused of including businesspersons in the formation of the State Project Committee as well as having other business meetings.

U Min Min Oo, Mon State’s Chief Minister, also co-manages the ministry of State Development and Construction.
