A new mobile system for birth/death registrations was launched in Mon State on Thursday, according to U Thin Myint, Deputy Minister of the Union Government office.

U Thin Myint informed the media about the new mobile tablet technology that will allow for the registration of births or deaths at the Royal Hinthar Hotel in Mawlamyine on October 3rd.

“[We] have chosen Mon State [to make this announcement] because it is quiet and peaceful. People in Mon State are active and collaborative,” said U Thin Myit.

The system is being first launched in Mon State, and then will be rolled out nationwide. An evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of the mobile system will be undertaken.

With the slogan “Leave no one behind”, the new system will be brought to various states and regions (except for conflict areas) to better gather birth and death information in the country.

“The registration lists of births/deaths used to be in a paper version, and it was quite inconvenient. Using the Mobile Tablet could be more helpful to keep information and gather accurate details,” said Dr. Tun Aung Kyi, the State Officer Mon State Department of Public Health

Obstetricians will register births and deaths via Township Health Departments through this Mobile Tablet, and the corresponding certificates will be available after the Township doctor signs off.

To upgrade the birth/death registration system, more than 1000 Mobile-Tablets have been provided to Mon State.
