Fifty tons of Padauk timber seized in Shan State

The Forestry Department issued a press statement October 9 saying 50 tons of Burma Padauk timber was seized on three 22-wheel trucks in Samase village on the Mandalay-Muse highway in Shan State.

Three drivers were also arrested.

Following a tip off, a police and Forestry Department team from Naungcho Township, Kyaukme District, Shan State searched a Sino 22-wheel heavy truck stopped near a football field between Pintee and Samase villages where they found 186 pieces of illegal Padauk timber along with a driver.

Similarly on the same day, another 116 pieces of illegal Padauk timber was seized on a Scania 22-wheel heavy truck along with a driver and on another truck they picked up 108 pieces of illegal Padauk timber along with a driver, the press statement says.

The combined operation netted over 50 tons of illegal Padauk timber in a single day on October 5.

The truck drivers are set to face charges in accordance with the law.
