A member of satirical poetry troupe Peacock Generation released from prison

Ko Phoe Thar, a member of satirical poetry troupe Peacock Generation, was released from Insein Prison on June 26, after serving his prison sentence.

Several members of the Peacock Generation were given prison sentences for their performance of  a controversial Thangyat (rhythmic verses recital) which allegedly disparaged the Myanmar military.

Ko Phoe Thar told Mizzima, “I had to stay at the prison for more than one year and two months. Because of amnesty and the reduction of prison sentence, I was released today. I condemn lawsuits like this. I will support my friends who are still in the prison.”

Ko Zayya Lwin, Ko Paing Ye thu, Ko Paing Phyo Min, Ma Kay Khine Tun and Ma Su Yadanar Myint are still in Insein Prison.
