Locals fear fighting as junta invades Belin

Locals are worried that a battle will break out as about a 100-member military unit has moved into some villages in Belin Township, Mon State.

On August 6, the military council began to conduct military operations in the villages of Belin – Thabyay Ni, Ahluu Gyi, Phoe Wah Thein, Nyaung Htauk, Mayan Gone, and Taung Sun – on the pretext of clearing the area.

The military council troops raided the communities and interrogated the suspects.

Locals said that they are worried that a fight will break out between the two sides due to the invasion of the military council.

Some of the villages that were invaded by junta troops include the areas controlled by the KNU, and in recent days, regime troops attacked the KNU checkpoint with heavy weapons.

An official from KNU Thon district said that the military situation between the two sides is intense due to the intervention of the military council and that fighting could happen again at any time.

Frequent clashes continue between the junta armed forces and the KNLA joint forces in KNU-controlled Belin Township in the wake of the coup.
