Local people in Mrauk-U are scared after the firing in the town resumed on March 19 in the morning in the wake of such firing yesterday March 18 in the evening.

A Mizzima reporter said that almost all shops in the town were closed in the evening on March 19 and also shops in Myoma market. The people stayed inside their houses and the streets are deserted.

In the yesterday evening’s shooting, some bullets hit Kanbawza Bank in Mrauk-U and also Rakkha Muni pagoda, opposite of the bank.

Rakkha Muni monastery abbot Ashin Kawwida told Mizzima, “The army fired from their cars indiscriminately. This was not an exchange of fire between two armies. They (government troops) fired into the town.”

Both Arakan Army (AA) and Tatmadaw (government troops) have denied responsibility for the shooting.
