Local defence forces push back in internet blackout areas of Sagaing

A coalition of local defence forces is pushing back hard against Military Council offensives in the Sagaing Region townships of Ye-U, Khin-U and Tabayin, where the internet has been cut off, according to Captain Justin, the commander of the Khin-U Township guerrilla force.

Two military columns entered Ye-U, Khin-U and Tabayin townships on 18 April. They killed three locals and nearly 100 houses were set on fire.

At least 20 military personnel have been killed in fighting with local defense forces since 18 April, according to local defense forces.

Many areas of Sagaing Region have had their internet cut off since the beginning of March.

“Since 3 March 2022, most of the townships [in the area] have been disconnected from the internet by the Military Council, it is one of their military strategies. Internet access is only available in Shwebo, Monywa, Kalay and Sagaing townships”, explained Captain Justin.

But, despite this, revolutionary forces are still pushing back against the junta in those areas.  Captain Justin explained “Despite oppressing people with weapons and by cutting internet access the local coalition forces are strongly opposed to the military council.”
