Deputy Commander-in-Chief Marwi of the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) stated that the Military Council troops captured as prisoners of war (PoWs) during clashes in Karenni State, are being held in accordance with humane policies, and ongoing legal proceedings.

The KNDF senior officer declared "We treat all those who surrender or defect to the people in a humane and appropriate way. We have prepared plans for those wishing to defect, urging them to do so as soon as possible. Families need not worry; these individuals will eventually return to the family's embrace at some point”, he told Kantarawaddy Times.

In accordance with established regulations, the KNDF is committed to valuing the lives of PoWs, aiming to facilitate the eventual reunion of those who have surrendered with their families.

Approximately 80 PoWs captured during 'Operation 1111' in Karenni State, are currently held in prisons administered by the Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC)’s Department of Home Affairs, receiving both food and accommodation.

Marwi further noted that within PoWs held by the IEC, certain individuals have received sentences, while others are still undergoing trial proceedings.

"Some of the prisoners in our custody have undergone trials and received sentences, while others are still in the process of hearings. We adhere to precise judicial procedures, ensuring the well-being of all detainees in prisons and detention centers”, he told Kantarawaddy Times.

In a video interview shared by Marwi on social media, it is evident that PoWs are being treated humanely and provided with medical care. Marwi also extends an invitation to all soldiers affiliated with the Military Council, urging them to seek refuge with and defect to the resistance forces.

The IEC and Karenni resistance forces are also collaborating to facilitate the voluntary defection of troops from the Junta’s command. The KNDF has also extended an offer, stating that those who voluntarily defect will be permitted to resume their original positions within the resistance if they so choose.
