Initial reports indicate that over 200 Military Council troops were captured as prisoners of war (PoWs), during the battle to seize control of the Kaung Khant military base in the Manweingyi area of Mansi Township, Kachin State.

On the morning of January 22nd, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the People's Defense Force (PDF) launched a successful raid, capturing the military fortification commonly referred to as the Manweingyi base.

After the Manweingyi base's fall, specific Military Council troops attempted to flee but were intercepted and captured by KIA and PDF both on the road, and at the China-Myanmar border. The joint resistance forces reported the total number of captured prisoners of war (PoWs) exceeded 200.

KNG is making efforts to reach Colonel Naw Bu, the spokesperson of the Karen Independence Organization (KIO), the political wing of KIA, in confirm the number of , PoWs, encompassing those who surrendered, and those captured while attempting to escape; however successful contact has not been established thus far.
