A reservoir being built to supply water to farmland between Demawso and Phruso townships in Karenni State with 120 million kyats from the state budget will become operational in February.

U Zaw Lin Tun deputy officer of Demawso Township Irrigation Department said to Kantarawaddy Times: “The project is sponsored by the irrigation department and the reservoir has been constructed using the state budget. We hope that it can be finished by 20th February.”

He said that construction of the reservoir, which is located between So-Hlar-Ku and Coil-Ngan villages, started on 20th November 2014.

There are two spillways divided from the main gateway, one supplies the Demawso side and the other supplies the Phruso side.

The spillways will irrigate 800 acres of land on the Demawso side and 845 acres on the Phruso side, said U Zaw Lin Tun.

U Say Reh a villager from So-Hlar-Ku said that previously there wasn’t enough water, but now with the reservoir everyone will have enough water.

He said: “Now with a reservoir in our area we can all get enough water, so it is fair for all.”

The reservoir is 145 feet long, 20.5 feet wide and 9.5 feet deep. At present construction is about 60 percent complete, said U Zaw Lin Tun.
