Karenni Doctors' Society Calls for Decisive Action To Stop Junta’s Attacks on Six Hospitals

The Doctors' Society of Karenni (DSOK) claims that the Military Council has targeted six crucial hospitals and clinics in Karenni (Kayah) State, upon which the local population depends.

"There are at least six hospitals targeted by the Military Council, and a number of clinics have also been attacked. This indicates a deliberate targeting of civilian health facilities", an information and external relations officer of DSOK told Kantarawaddy Times.

In a statement on November 24th, DSOK called on local and international organizations to take action against the Military Council for intentionally committing war crimes by targeting civilian health facilities. The doctors group also reported documenting a minimum of 10 instances of hospital and clinic attacks in Karenni State, involving airstrikes and shelling, in 2023 alone.

" DSOK  strongly condemns the Military Council's targeted assaults on hospitals and clinics in Karenni State. We call for appropriate actions against anyone committing war crimes and urge local and international organizations to collaborate in bringing the Military Council to justice for their actions”, the DSOK official said.

following the 2021 coup, the Military Council escalated its targeted attacks not only on healthcare facilities but also on civilian areas, educational institutions, and religious buildings in Karenni State.
