Bangladesh lodged a protest with Burma after Burmese security forces killed a Bangladeshi villager and injured another on 14 and 15 December in what Bangladesh called unprovoked attacks, according to local man Noor Khobir.
Burma Border Guard Police (BGP) shot and killed Janail Abadin (20), a Bangladeshi grocer, on the Burma Bangladesh border on 14 December at about 8am, whilst he was collecting wood with two other people. The incident happened between border pillars 47 and 48, which mark the border between Bangladesh's Bandarban District and Burma.
On the next day, 15 December, the BGP shot at and injured another Bangladeshi villager in the same spot after he had gone there to collect firewood. The BGP then took the injured man away according to a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) aide based in the border area.
The aide said that the BGB have repeatedly requested that the BGP meet them for a flag meeting to discuss these incidents, but the BGP have not responded to the requests which has angered the BGB.
the situation has led to Bangladesh deploying extra troops on the Burma Bangladesh border and the Burmese government responded to this by deploying more Burmese troops to the border, which has led to an escalation of tension on the border.
On 20 December the Burmese Ambassador to Bangladesh, U Myint Oo Min, was summoned to the Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry in Dhaka and given a letter detailing the events at the border and Bangladesh's concerns with the situation there, according to a local newspaper.
