Kachin State’s first COVID-19 patient—and Burma’s 144th—was discharged from Myitkyina hospital on Monday after testing negative twice for the virus last week.
Dr. Phone Maw, head of the hospital, said that the man left at 9:30 a.m. on May 11, and will now stay at a quarantine facility for two weeks. After this, he will undergo another test to ensure that he’s still negative for the coronavirus.
“After that, we will allow him to return to Mohnyin, When he arrives in Mohnyin, he will have to stay in home quarantine for another seven days,” Dr. Phone Maw said.
Physicians from Mohnyin hospital will perform a health check after the completion of the home quarantine period.
“If his health is fine, he can return to life as a normal person,” the doctor said of what would happen at the end of his period of home quarantine.
Patient 144 had previously worked in the Tsang Yi shoe factory in Hlaing Tharyar Township in Yangon. He returned home last month after losing his job and had self-quarantined there. He tested positive for COVID-19 on April 24, according to the Ministry of Health and Sports, and then transferred to the hospital in Myitkyina the next day, where he received treatment.
