Junta weapons seized from Catholic church in Shan State’s Mobye Township

Karenni joint defence forces seized junta weapons and ammunition from a Catholic Church in Shan State’s Mobye Township, following fierce fighting in the township on 12 September.

Junta troops stationed at a Catholic Church in Pwe Kone 3 Ward in Mobye Township retreated from the church after being overwhelmed by defence forces, according to Mobye People’s Defence Force (PDF), one of the groups involved in the fighting.

It said that the junta forces had planted mines around the church, but after the defence forces cleared the mines they managed to get into the church. There they found and seized one RPG,  two 79 mm grenade launchers, 14 grenades, eight boxes of magazines, 521 rounds of 7.62 mm cartridges and 260 rounds of 5.56 mm cartridges.

Mobye PDF also issued a warning to the public, telling them to stay away from the area of the church because the junta had planted mines.

Fierce fighting has continued breaking out across Mobye Township and the junta has been suffering heavy casualties, but it has also launched airstrikes and offensives in other parts of Karen State, according to Mbye PDF.
