Junta shooting in Hakha injures three, including schoolgirls

Three civilians, including two schoolgirls, were injured when junta troops opened fire in central Hakha City, the capital of Chin State.

Around 11:30 am on August 20, a shooting occurred in Hakha City, a territory still under junta control in Chin State. A man was shot in the stomach, and two schoolgirls sustained leg injuries.

“The reports of a shooting are true. Junta troops reportedly opened fire, injuring a man in the stomach and two young girls in the legs. As far as we know, the girls are school students,” said a Hakha resident.

The two girls sustained minor injuries, while the man’s condition is serious. He was not a resident of Hakha City, but came from nearby Surngen Village.

The exact reason why the junta opened fire on civilians remains unknown. According to locals, junta troops have tightened security in Hakha City and are conducting strict checks on pedestrians.
