Junta Shelling Injures Mindat Family

A mother and her 11-year-old son were injured by indiscriminate regime shelling on their village in Mindat Township, southern Chin State.

According to a villager who requested anonymity, at least six shells hit Madap. He said a shell struck a mango tree near the victim’s house. The boy’s right leg was blown off by shrapnel as he was leaving his house and some embedded in his left thigh. His mother suffered minor injuries in the blast.

The boy was taken to Mindat town and then transferred to the hospital in Mandalay.

Burma Army (BA) Infantry Battalion 274 in Mindat town fired the shells at around 8am on 24 May, although no fighting was reported in the area.

The day before, the Chinland Defense Force for Mindat reportedly killed two BA soldiers in a 30-minute battle near the regime’s camp in Meethat Kon at the eastern end of Mindat town.
