Residents of Kyaukhnget village tract in Ywangan Township, southern Shan State, are fleeing their homes following a violent military crackdown that has seen junta troops arbitrarily arrest, beat, and detain local civilians, residents reported.

The crackdown began after clashes erupted on July 22 near Hsinhsarpyar village between military regime forces and the Danu People's Liberation Army (DPLA).

Following the fighting, nearly 300 junta soldiers were deployed to Kyaukhnget and Hsinhsarpyar villages, establishing positions from July 24 through July 27.

According to displaced locals, regime forces rounded up villagers, beat them, and confined them inside a monastery's ordination hall in Kyaukhnget.

"Some villagers managed to escape, but soldiers beat everyone they caught," said a local woman who fled the area. "Every young man in the village has already fled. They are arresting and beating everyone they find, including women. The situation is critical."

Residents reported that soldiers also conducted house-to-house searches in nearby Hsinhsarpyar village, leaving remaining civilians in fear.

"We evacuated early with the children, leaving everything behind," said a 40-year-old displaced mother currently staying with relatives. "If we had waited until soldiers entered the village, they wouldn't have let us leave."

Locals also alleged that junta forces are forcibly abducting young men from Kyaukhnget and Oktwin villages to serve as military porters and human shields for frontline troops.

Ywangan Township remains a volatile conflict zone, contested by junta forces, the pro-junta militia, the Pa-O National Organisation (PNO), the Danu State National Defence Army (DSNDA), and the DPLA.
