Junta seeks to rule by instilling fear in public due to political, military defeat

The military council's statement that those who support the National Unity Government (NUG), the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and the People's Defense Forces (PDF) will be punished shows that there is political and military weakness, and they tried to rule by instilling fear in the public, the democracy activists said.

At the press conference on September 20, General Zaw Min Tun said at the press conference that those who encourage and support the NUG, CRPH, and PDF will face severe punishment.

Spokesman Major General Zaw Min Tun has threatened that netizens may be charged with Article 124-b (b) of the Penal Code if they like and share news, photos and videos related to NUG, CRPH and PDFs on Facebook.

A pro-democracy activist said that the military council's statement was aimed at instilling fear into the public and by looking at this statement, we can say that our revolution is 70 percent.

The Military Council has threatened its staff that they will take action under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code against those who advocate for participation in CDM and those who provide financial support to PDF.

In addition, he also announced five penalties that could be imposed on financial activites, such as providing financial support to a terrorist group, buying treasury bonds sold by these organizations, playing the spring lottery, and contributing money online.

A lawyer said that the military council is under great pressure due to the current situation of intense political and military rivalry, and so these restrictions have been imposed.

After the military coup in Myanmar, the Military Council arrests the urban residents and imposes new laws to oppress them. Human rights activists say that in some areas, the military council is burning houses and killing people on a daily basis.

Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code, Section 124 B (b) of the Penal Code, and Section 52/54 of the Anti-Terrorism Law, which the military council held to prosecute only for encouraging and supporting the opponents, are sections that can carry a maximum penalty of three years in prison to life imprisonment or death sentence.

According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), as of September 20, during the Spring Revolution, 2,299 people were killed, and 1,477 of the 12,444 detainees were sentenced to prison terms.
