Junta jet fighters again bomb Mindat Township destroying a monastery and homes

Military Council forces bombed the houses and the monastery in Paleikhtwi Village, Mindat Township.

The battalion stationed in Mindat town also opened fire with howitzer weapons according to the Mindat People’s Administration Team.

As a result of the aerial bombardment, 2 residential houses, 1 monastery and 1 ordination hall were destroyed. It is known that some people were injured due to the aerial bombardment, but the exact investigation has not yet been carried out According to the Mindat People’s Administration Team, the monastery bombed by the Military Council was a residence of civilian volunteers helping war refugees.

“It was not only an attack on a religious building, but also an intentional and vulgar attack on civilian war refugees.”

They also reported that “the Military Council forces had bombarded innocent civilians and war refugees as well as CDF-Mindat’s military bases in CDF-Mindat-controlled areas in Mindat Township with jet fighters about eight times in January.”

Dr. Ngai Tam Maung, the Deputy Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management under the National Unity Government (NUG), said that the Military Council may use more airstrikes, so people need to be extra careful.

CDF-Mindat has issued a notice to people in Mindat township to dig bomb shelters that meet the specifications near their homes, and to pay special attention to the risk of airstrikes by the Military Council.

The National Unity Government (NUG) Disaster Management minister added “The the Military Council is being defeated on the ground, so there is a possibility that theywill use their warplanes more and more, where they have the advantage. Civiliansneed to protect themselves from these air attacks. The warplanes are not only used

against our resistance forces, but also in places where there are refugees, as well asmonasteries and hospitals. So the civilians also need to plan in advance how to prepare and how to avoid the risk of airstrikes,”  said Dr. Ngai Tam Maung.
