If the government officially invited, FPNCC will attend the 21st Century Panglong Conference

All member organizations of the Federal Political Negotiation and Consultative Committee (FPNCC) will attend the third session of the 21st Century Panglong Conference, also known as the Union Peace Conference, if it is officially invited by the government.

The FPNCC made the decision during its second meeting of the standing committee held on March 26-28 and released a statement at the end of the meeting.

“During the meeting, attitudes towards the third session of the 21st Century Panglong Conference have been thoroughly discussed. All FPNCC members will attend together, if the government sent an official invitation letter,” the FPNCC announced in the statement.

The FPNCC has requested further support from China to guarantee its security while it attends the 21st Century Panglong Conference.

The FPNCC stated that each member organization reviewed the current political situation and progress of the peace process and they believe China’s positive involvement in Myanmar’s peace process has become more important.

The FPNCC has welcomed the election of the new President U Win Myint on March 28 and hopes peace in Myanmar can be quickly implemented under the leadership of the new president.

The FPNCC also called on the Tatmadaw to solve ongoing military and political conflicts in the ethnic areas via political methods.

“We denounce the actions of the Tatmadaw, which is carrying out military offensives and operations in the Kachin, Ta’ang, Kokkant, and Rakhine areas and urge them to solve ethnic conflicts via a political dialogue,” the FPNCC said in the statement.

Twenty-seven representatives from the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), the United League of Arakan (ULA), the Palaung State Liberation Front (PSLF), the Myanmar National Truth and Justice Party (MNTJP), the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP), the Peace and Solidarity Committee (PSC), and the United Wa State Party (UWSP) attended the FPNCC’s meeting.

The FPNCC has officially announced its plan to discuss politics with the government via an alternative path to the nationwide ceasefire agreement (NCA).
