Some returning IDPs were wounded due to an explosion of leftover bombs in Loikaw, Kayah State, according to the locals.

On April 4, two children were wounded when two leftover explosives burst in Daw Ou Khu ward in Loikaw.

Although none of the children was in critical condition, one of them had severe injures to his right hand.

According to a local resident, the ward administrator requested the military council to dispose of some of the battle's unexploded munitions, but they didn’t.

“I am not sure if it is unexploded ordnance or mines. The community leader asked the military council to come and clear the mine, however, they didn’t,” said the local.

There are many mines planted by the military council in some areas of Loikaw and some of which remain unexploded, according to the Karenni People's Defense Force.

IDPs returning to Loikaw are currently required to receive a letter of approval from the military council in order to enter the city.

Following the coup, more than 200,000 people are still hiding in the forests and refugee camps in Kayah State due to confrontations between the military council and the local People's Defense Forces.
