IDPs in KNU territory in urgent need of warm jackets, blankets

The conflict-affected displaced persons in KNU-controlled areas are in desperate need of jackets and blankets amid the chilly winter, the Karen Human Rights Group told Than Lwin Times.

Due to junta intrusions and human rights violations, almost 400,000 people have fled the fighting in KNU-controlled areas.

People fleeing the conflict are suffering from the cold weather and require humanitarian aid.

The refugees who are hiding in the jungles need blankets and warm clothes as well as facing health problems, the KHRG said.

It added that with continued clashes, there are many challenges in sending warm clothes and blankets to the refugees.

The number of displaced people reached 400,00 in the KNU’s Brigade 1 (Thaton District), Brigade 2 (Taungoo Distritc) , Brigade 3 (Nyaunglaybin District) , Brigade 4 (Myeik-Dawei District), Brigade 5 (Hpapun District) and Brigade 6 (Dooplayar District), and they are unable to return home till now.

The junta forces also stepped up military operations in the 1st, 5th, and 6th Brigades and launched airstrikes and artillery fire as more civilians fled the fighting, according to the humanitarian workers.
