Hundreds of differently-able voters in the state

Naw Dway El Khu — There are hundreds of differently-able persons from Kayah State who are eligible to vote in the 2020 election, according to Kayah State election official, Kyaw San Win.

According to the Kayah State Election Commission, 51 percent of the over 207,000 eligible voters in the state are women, and there are more than 600 voters with disabilities.

 

U Kyaw San Win said, “We have 90 blind persons in Kayah State. There are 66 deaf persons. There are 77 dumb persons. There are about 430 differently-able persons, and there are about 50 persons who are with wheel-chair.”

Although no separate polling stations have been set up for differently-able people, polling station chiefs are trained to make it easier for those people to vote. Kyaw San Win said polling station staff had made arrangements for those people in order to be able to vote comfortably.

On November 8, the general election will be held in accordance with the guidelines of COVID Prevention and Control issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports; and mask, face shield, Hand Gels will be distributed to polling stations in various townships.

There are 34 constituencies in seven townships in Kayah State. There are 233 polling stations, with 13 political parties and 13 individuals running, according to the state election commission.
