Government invites youth volunteers to work in Rakhine State

Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement has invited youth volunteers to work in Rakhine State starting on November 9 with the motto ’20 days for people’.

Teams of volunteers will go to Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships in Rakhine State to provide humanitarian assistance, data collection, development work and to uplift the morale of local people.

Each team will have 20 volunteer youths and the teams will work in turn with 20 days for each team. The government invites interested volunteer youths in the age group 18-35 to take part in this programme.

The ministry issued a press release which says interested volunteer youths can contact (a) Aung Kyaw Moe, Director General, 09-860 1003,09-428 601 003 (b) Dr. Aung Thu Rein, Deputy Director (Relief and Resettlement Department) 09-533 0520, (c) Dr. Ye Myat Oo, Assistant Director, Social Welfare Department, 09-510 0259 to join the programme.

The Union Enterprise for Humanitarian Assistance, Resettlement and Development (UEHRD) for Rakhine State formed a Humanitarian Coordination Youth Team (HCYT) and this working group initiated the programme.

During her recent tour to Rakhine State on November 2, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi met Youth Humanitarian Coordination Group (YHCG) at Sittwe airport and said to them law and order and development work could not be done in the short term but in long term and local people need to join in this work.
