Pathein Township court has granted bail to former deputy speaker of Ayeyarwady Region legislative assembly San Min Aung who is charged with corruption case in the procurement of five vehicles for the assembly.

Pathein Township court magistrate Khin Myat Myat Tun said that the court gave bail to San Min Aung at the court hearing held on September 13 at the trial with two guarantors with 50 million kyat each surety.

“His health condition is one reason for granting bail. He submitted his medical records and checkups. We heard the testimony of Dr. Za Shein on his health condition and then the doctor told court that they could not diagnose his case and he needed to be referred to specialists from hospitals outside for proper diagnosis. We can observe his deterioration of his health in court too. So we granted him bail under section 497(1) exception by observing his medical records, testimony given by medical officer and our own observations at court,”

Pathein Township court magistrate Khin Myat Myat Tun said the defendant’s poor health was a factor in granting bail.

San Min Aung is said to be suffering from a range of ailments including tuberculosis, kidney and heart disease.

Ayeyarwady Region legislative assembly deputy director Zaw Lin Tun brought the case against the former deputy speaker of Ayeyarwady Region assembly in connection with procurement of five vehicles to be used by assembly office under section 409 of Penal Code (breach of trust). The court will reportedly commence hearing on September 19 in this case by the examining prosecutor.
