Five political parties will run in the by-election in the Chin State on November 3.
The Chin State Election Commission’s secretary U Lin Kyaw said the Chin National Democratic Party (CNDP), the Chin Progressive Party (CPP), the Chin League for Democracy (CLD), the National League for Democracy (NLD), and the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) will run in Kanpetlet and Matupi townships in the Chin State.
The CNDP, the CPP, the NLD, and the USDP will run for a seat in the Pyithu Hluttaw in Kanpetlet Township.
U Manar Shein, a candidate from the CPP, said he will run in the by-election to amend outdated laws in order to serve the public interest.
“It’s due to the need of Kanpetlet Township. The public needs a good leader. They are unsatisfied with the leaders. That’s why I will work practically. We really need to amend outdated laws in our country. I want to participate [in the parliament] in order to amend them,” said U Manar Shein.
The CLD and the NLD will compete for a seat in the State Hluttaw in Matupi Township.
“I want to point out the government’s development tasks. I want it to be supervised and used effectively for regional development. Another thing is that I want to boost youth and women participation,” said U Aung Liang, who will represent the CLD.
