Myat Swe — The families of two men who were detained on March 8 near Khaung Tote village in Kyauktaw Township are concerned as they have not received any information about the pair since they were taken into custody.
The detainees are 54-year-old U Maung Shwe Aye from Khaung Tote village and U Kyaw Nyein, 53, from Sapho Thar village.
Daw Aye Thein, the wife of U Maung Shwe Aye, accused the Tatmadaw of having detained her husband, who she said works for a pole tower company.
“He went to Nargayar village at around 8 a.m. yesterday to check the tower’s generator and came back home at around 1 p.m.,” Daw Aye Thein told DMG on Monday. “When he entered the village [Khaung Tote], he met a Tatmadaw unit coming out of the village. They took him with them.”
She said that U Kyaw Nyein was detained along with her husband as he hitched a ride on U Maung Shwe Aye’s motorbike as he was returning to his home from Nargayar village after his mother’s funeral ceremony.
“My husband hasn’t done anything wrong,” Daw Aye Thein said. “I want him to be released very soon. I cannot think of any reason why they took him and we haven’t yet received any contact from him. So we are very concerned for him.”
DMG attempted to contact Colonel Win Zaw Oo from the Myanmar military’s Western Command and Brig-General Zaw Min Tun from the Tatmadaw True News Information Team, but neither of them responded.
