CSSU meets in Naypyidaw ahead of the 21st Century Panglong Conference

The leaders of the Committee for Shan State Unity (CSSU) met in Naypyidaw on July 10 to set down a decision for the third session of the 21st Century Panglong Conference.

The CSSU members made a four-point decision during the meeting at the Royal Lotus Hotel on July 10.

According to the decision, the Shan nationals will not present anything since it has been unable to hold a national-level political dialogue and obtain common ground and they will only participate in the discussion on the issues that aim towards a federal union.

The CSSU agreed to prepare for the secession/non-secession issue and unified army issue for the next sessions and review the facts that will be released by the third session of the 21st Century Panglong Conference during the meeting.

“I’m not the spokesperson so I can’t talk about it. We discussed the decisions relating to tomorrow’s conference, issues on holding a dialogue on the Shan State's constitution, and organization of the CSSU,” a leader who attended the meeting said on condition of anonymity.

The Federal Union Party (FUP)’s chair Saw Than Myint and vice-chair Sao Thar Oo, who resigned from the Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP) and established FUP, also attended the meeting.

The SNDP is currently serving as the chair of the CSSU and its secretaries group comprises the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS), the Shan State Joint Action Committee (SSJAC) members: the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD), the Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA), and Kengtung-based Eastern Shan State Development Democratic Party (ESSDDP), and representatives of Shan civil society organizations.
