CDF Attacks Regime Column Returning From Matupi

The Mindat Chinland Defence Force (CDF) has killed nine Burma Army (BA) soldiers in several raids in southern Chin State.

According to the group’s spokesperson, Salai Har Oum, the resistance group attacked the 73-vehicle BA column with landmines and rifle fire after it reached Mindat Township from Matupi over a week ago.

“We launched a surprise attack…During the initial clash, we killed four BA soldiers and wounded three others,” he said of the ambush at milepost 71 on 30 April.

Although the spokesperson was not sure if there were any casualties in the attack the following day, he said they killed at least five soldiers on 2 May. ”We detonated several landmines when they entered our minefield.”

He explained that the CDF attacked the BA every time they entered their area of control in Mindat Township.

Sometime in late April, the Chin resistance group killed 8 soldiers from the same column between mileposts 90 and 91.

Normally it should take one day to cover the 102 miles between Matupi and Mindat towns, but it took the BA column 10 days to reach Matupi during its previous journey, which the CDF attributes to their earlier raids that also resulted in numerous casualties among the regime’s troops.

For the return of the same column to Mindat, the spokesman reckons it will take the same amount of time since the CDF will continue its attacks on the BA soldiers.
