Burma Army Attacks Village In Muse

The Burma Army shelled a Ta’ang village and damaged a house and a paddy field after clashing with the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) in Muse township, northern Shan State.

On Sunday night, the BA fired at least seven shells from the 105-mile military camp at Nam Tawn village, near which Light Infantry Battalion 421 clashed with Kokang group’s Battalion 5 between 2pm and 3pm.

According to a source, a shell struck the village house and market and two shells landed in different paddy fields. The man, who wants to remain anonymous, said no one was injured in the attack.

Another anonymous man said: “We don’t want armed clashes in our village…A school was just opened in our village and the students were scared when they heard the gunshots. Farmers couldn’t go to their paddy field yesterday.” He said that some people fled Nam Tawn when the fighting took place.

The residents asked the MNDAA not to attack junta forces near the village, but the BA attacked the Kokang group anyway.

MNDAA and Kachin Independence Army have frequently fought with the junta along the Union highway in Muse district.
