The Arakan National Party (ANP) has formed an inquiry commission to probe civilian injuries and damage to Rakhine heritage buildings in fighting between Tatmadaw (government troops) and Arakan Army (AA).

ANP central committee secretary Tun Aung Kyaw told Mizzima, “ANP is a party elected by people and have an overwhelming majority in Rakhine State. Our central executive committee thinks they have responsibility to enquire about this attack and assigned this committee on March 20,”

This committee will reportedly enquire primarily on civilian casualties in Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Buthidaung, Ponnagyun, Rathedaung townships and also will take list of ancient pagodas damaged in the attack in Mrauk-U.

“We assume that the union government which takes charge of office and is accountable to the people has responsibility (for this attack). So, we will send findings to President, State Counsellor, Commander-in-Chief, human rights organizations, and other organizations concerned,” Tun Aung Kyaw added.

According to the resolution the inquiry commission shall submit their report to party headquarters within seven days starting from March 20.

This commission is constituted with ANP Vice-Chairperson Aye Nuu Sein, Secretary Tun Aung Kyaw, ANP party MPs and legislators of Rakhine State legislative assembly totalling 9 members.
