Airstrike Kills Five Children in Mogok Town

A junta airstrike on 9 July 2025 killed five children and seriously injured a further five adults, in Mandalay’s Mogok Town.

A junta fighter jet bombed Panmahteik Ward, near the eastern entrance of Mogok Town at approximately 8:00 pm on 9 July.

That evening, after the attack, a Panmahteik Ward resident said to NMG: “The two children who died instantly were brothers. Their house was directly hit by the bomb, and nearby houses were damaged by shrapnel. Sadly, both boys died on the spot. Among those injured are [three] other children whose conditions are very serious and they urgently need blood.”

The two children who died instantly were aged 10 and 12. By the morning of 10 July, the three children who had been taken to the hospital with serious injuries also died, raising the death toll of children to five. Five adults were also so badly injured in the airstrike that they remain hospitalised with serious injuries. Six houses were also destroyed and seven heads of cattle were killed.

Another resident of Panmahteik Ward said on 10 July: “Three more people died this morning because their injuries were too severe to survive. In Mogok, people have sadly gotten used to the junta’s bombings. Life is going on as usual, and only a few who can afford it have managed to leave the town temporarily.”

The day before the most recent airstrike, 8 July, another junta airstrike hit a private school in the western part of Mogok Town, killing three locals.

On 25 June a junta airstrike on the village of Ohnkine, on the eastern outskirts of Mogok Town, injured four villagers and destroyed several houses.
