48 Killed Including 2 Military Council Majors: Arms and Ammunition Seized in the Battle of Kawkareik Township

In a battle that took place on Kaukreik Asia Road in Kawkareik Township, Karen State that stretched between December 19 to 31, 2022, 48 members including 2 majors from the military council were killed and 61 other persons were injured. Weapons and ammunition were also confiscated by the Cobra Column.

The Karen National Liberation Army KNLA joint force battalion No.18,and  battalion No.27, along with fighters from the Cobra, Dona, White tiger, and White dragon columns, along with drones from the  Federal Wings and Golden Eagles units, fought a lengthy battle against the military council’s forces.   The military’s armed and territorial defense forces had invaded the south of Kawkareik on the Asian road and Kaw Nwe village in large numbers.

During the battle, ten members from the Cobra column were injured and one member was killed.  Four members from the Dona column and three members from the White Dragon column were injured.

Following the battle, a large tranche of military equipment was seized from the 18th KNLA battalion and the Cobra column. In addition 2 military council armored vehicles were destroyed.

The military council fired heavy weapons, used attack helicopters, and jets to attack a local village.  They also burned down 18 houses in Kaw Nwe village, destroying almost the entire village, and killing numerous cattle, cows, pigs, and chickens.
