People forced to pay for volleyball competition

People in Matupi Township , Chin State , Burma were forced to contribute money for a volleyball competition organized by the Tactical Commander.
People in Matupi Township , Chin State , Burma were forced to contribute money for a volleyball competition organized by the Tactical Commander.

The organizing committee headed by Colonel San Aung, Tactical Commander of Tactical (2), forcibly collected Kyat 300 per household from residents in Matupi Township , Chin state for a volleyball competition which began on October 29.
 
Residents suspect that the game was organized by the military authorities as a tool in an attempt to divert the attention of the people from politics.
 
“I think, by organizing the volleyball game they were trying to turn the attention of the people to the activities initiated by them,” said a source in Matupi.
 
Despite the people’s dissatisfaction with the authorities the game was concluded without any problems on December 3.
 
In the 16 teams that participated there eight women’s teams from Matupi Township .
 
The Khoboi team in the men’s group won the finals along with the Basic Education High School (B.E.H.S) team from the women’s group. Both teams were awarded Kyat 200,000 each as first prize.
