Khine Nwe Oo — Over 1,000 people were still lined after the official closing time at Shwe Pyi Thar Polling Station in Kawthoung Township. Election officials allowed the polling station to stay open until 5 pm; one hour after it was supposed to close, according to U Zaw Min Htike, an independent regional parliament candidate.

Not everyone got a chance to cast their ballot.

“There are many eligible voters here. There isn’t enough time to vote and people weren’t familiar with voting so many people lost their right,” said U Zaw Min Htike.

Other polling stations across the country experienced similar setbacks causing frustrations for would be voters.

Shwe Pyi Thar Polling Station has over 2,700 eligible voters; only 800 people managed to cast their ballot by the official closing time.
