Four political parties have added their names to a letter objecting advanced voting for three parliament and ethnics affairs positions sent from outside the Taunggyi constituency. The objection letter was hand delivered to Township Election Commission Chairman U Ye Pe at 4 pm.

The National League for Democracy (NLD); the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD); the Union Pa-O National Organization (UPNO); and the Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP) jointly drafted the letter.

It opposed 616 advanced ballots from Myanmar Armed Forces Eastern Command and 300 advanced ballots from the 222 Support Army sent to Aung Thapyay of the ward polling station urging the Union Election Commission (UEC) to investigate the incident and deem ballots as invalid.

“The commission is still unable to show the Form 18 (1) for accepting these advanced ballots. We just have to inspect this form to find out where they came from and who submitted them,” said Ko Win Naing Soe, from the NLD.

U Sai Zaw Zaw, USDP Lower House candidate, denied knowing anything about the ballots and said he will respect whatever the commission decides regarding this incident.
