The residents of Nyawpyin and Auk Kyaukwut villages in Tanintharyi Region’s Launglon Township, who fled the junta’s arson attacks, have not been able to return to their homes until now, the displaced people told Than Lwin Times.

On March 21, a regime force of more than 100 soldiers entered two villages, burned nearly 150 houses, and gunned down a young man from Auk Kawut village.

The army’s arson attack forced more than 1,000 residents of Nyawpyin and Auk Kawut villages to flee to the nearby jungles and safer places.

The displaced people have not returned to their homes because they are worried that the military column will invade again, and they are monitoring the situation, a resident said.

At the moment, if the displaced people returned to the village, they would have no place to live, and the stored food had also been destroyed by fire.

It is reported that the junta troops have left the village but are still on the side of the Kamyawkin Bridge in Launglon Township, quietly deploying and providing security.

According to a research group, Southern Monitor reported in early March that more than 30,000 local residents have been displaced after the military coup in Tanintharyi.
