Junta arbitrarily arrests innocent people in Tanintharyi

The junta has arbitrarily arrested and detained 17 innocent people in Tanintharyi Town who have no ties to people’s defence forces (PDFs) or the Spring Revolution, according to the NGO, Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM).

They were arrested whilst travelling, during midnight raids and at security toll gates.

According to locals ,12 civilians, who had nothing to do with the Spring Revolution, were arrested when junta soldiers and police raided their homes in the wards of Chaung Gyi, Chaung Nge, and Lae Taung War in Tanintharyi Town, on 28 February 2023.

A family member of one of the people who was detained said: "They just knocked on each door and grabbed the people on their lists. My cousin, a 34-year-old female shop owner, was also abducted from her house.”

Apparently, others in the region have also been arbitrarily arrested. HURFOM fieldworkers are currently investigating.
