Military Council recaptured three deserters in Matupi Chin State

Three armed soldiers who deserted from their military unit stationed in the town of Matupi in Chin state, were recaptured near Bungtla (Bontala) waterfalls, on the evening of December 16th.

The soldiers who has escaped were recaptured due to their lack of knowledge of the area, a Matupi resident commented.

“They were stranded near Bungtla waterfalls close to our village. They didn’t know the terrain, so they got lost. I heard that the Tactical Operations Commander was quite happy that they had all been recaptured”, he said.

After the soldiers fled with their weapons on December 14th, the Military Council troops blocked all entrances and exits of Matupi township and extensively searched for them.

After the soldiers were recaptured, the town’s entry and exit gates were reopened after being closed and four passenger vehicles that had been blocked were also able to reach Matupi.
