Mon State Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan will enter a final plea in the upcoming trial for the junta’s charge of abuse of power in the election, according to the sources close to the matter.

The Military Council opened two cases under Section 171(f) of the Penal Code against Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan for abusing his power in the 2020 general election, but the case was tried in court on November 22.

U Thein Zaw, the head of the Mon State’s Sub-Election Commission and a defense witness brought by Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan, was examined during that trial.

Due to the lack of presidential permission to prosecute the election case of Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan, which was prosecuted by the military council, the lawyer team applied to the court to dismiss the entire case, but the investigation was continued after it was rejected.

Prime Minister Dr. Aye Zan’s election cases were filed by U Htin Kyaw, secretary of the Mawlamyine District Election Commission, as a plaintiff.

Dr. Aye Zan, the chief minister of Mon State, is currently being incarcerated in Kyaikmaraw Central Prison after the military council sentenced him to 25 years in prison for 11 offenses.
