Explosions at two administrative offices in Ayeyarwady’s Dedaye Township

Local residents heard explosions at the Municipal Office and the No. 2 Ward Administration Office in Dedaye Township in Ayeyarwady Region, on 13 September.

The first explosion happened at the Municipal Office at around 5:30 a.m. Then, there was a second explosion at the No. 2 Ward Administration Office at 7:30 a.m., according to a Dedaye resident.

There were reports that office staff in both the offices were injured by the explosions, but Mizzima was unable to confirm the reports.

After the explosions junta soldiers and police officers from Dedaye Township Police inspected the offices  where the explosions happened and the nearby areas, according to locals.

“The Municipal Office was hit by a home-made hand grenade but it didn’t cause a huge amount of damage. However, we heard that there was a lot of damage at the No. 2 Ward Administration Office, but the Military Council has covered it up”, said a person associated with Dedaye Township Police Station.

The explosions were carried out by the Dedaye Township People’s Defense Force as part of Operation Nan Htike Aung.

The purpose of Operation Nan Htike Aung is to target not only junta forces, but also anyone affiliated with the regime, including those who support the regime financially or work as military informants.
