Emergency vehicle attacked in Myawaddy

An emergency vehicle was shot near Tawnaw Waterfall on Myaddy-Kawkayeik Asia Road in Karen State’s Kawkayeik Township at around 9 am on August 22, the sources familiar with the case told Than Lwin Times.

A rescue vehicle carrying a patient in critical condition was attacked by an armed group while heading to Hpa-an from Myawaddy.

The attack hit the car, but the driver and the patient were not injured.

"There were about ten gunshots. One bullet hit the side of the car. The car has an ambulance badge, and lights and sirens," a source said.

If there are a series of attacks targeting ambulances, it may become difficult to transport patients to hospitals in the region in the long run, he said.

Passenger buses and fuel tankers on Myaddy-Kawkareik Asia Road were frequently attacked, with some casualties.
