Junta artillery kills 20-year-old woman in Sagaing's Myaung Township

A 20-year-old woman was killed on the spot when junta forces fired heavy artillery into Sel Village in Sagaing’s Myaung Township on 17 July.

According to Ko Nway Oo, the head of the Civilian Defense Security Organisation Myaung (CDSOM) the junta troops fired three artillery rounds into Sei Village from near to Thayetaw Village. Two of the rounds exploded outside Sei village, but one exploded in a tea shop in Sei village killing a woman.

The dead woman was named as 20-year-old Myat Thandar Aung from Sei Village.

Ko Nway Oo said: "She [Myat Thandar Aung] was wiping down tables in the teashop. While she was cleaning an artillery round hit the roof and exploded. She died instantly from a head wound.

A seven-year-old who was also in the teashop was injured and is now currently receiving medical attention.

Myat Thandar Aung's funeral was held on the same day, 17 July.

"We recently came back from her funeral, she was cremated at the crematorium in Sei Village. The parents of the victim yelled and sobbed because they had just lost their daughter. Because it was close to the junta's Kyuakyit base camp even the funeral had to be quick", said Ko Nway Oo.
