Bus Fares Increase In Myitkyina

Fares for buses travelling from Myitkyina to Yangon and Mandalay have been increased.

From 30 June, fares from Myitkyina to Mandalay, which use to cost $15, and from Yangon and Mandalay, which previously cost $20, were increased by $4 each.

“The authorities have allowed us to increase the bus fares a little” after fuel has increased and the number of passengers has dramatically decreased, an official from a Kachin State private motor vehicles committee, who requested anonymity, told KNG.

According to an anonymous source from a Myitkyina vehicle association, the Thitsa Hlaing bus was robbed at around 9pm on 13 May while travelling from Myitkyina to Mandalay. The robbers escaped with gold jewellery, cash and mobile phones. Afterwards, less people travelled on the bus line.

Of the more than 80 buses departing from Myitphyar Aya bus station in Myitkyina, 3 have stopped their service because of the increased price of fuel.
