A police station chief was killed and several police officers were injured in an attack on Thapyay Kan Police Station in Thanlyin Township south of Yangon City, on 20 May, according to the Thanlyin People’s Defence Force.

The Thanlyin People’s Defence Force attacked the police station at 11.20 p.m. on 20 May as part of the Nan Htike Aung Offensive against the junta.

“Our informant in the military told us that that the police station chief had been killed and several others [police officers] were injured in our attack on Thapyay Kan Police Station.” a Thanlyin People’s Defence Force representative said to Mizzima.

There are bunkers inside the police station and it is manned by 20 junta personnel.

The Thanlyin People’s Defense Force claimed that its members were able to retreat unharmed.

According to surveillance footage released on 21 May, there were at least 10 shots fired by the PDF fighters and no return of fire from the police station.

The NUG Yangon Regional Military Command’s Nan Htike Aung Offensive began on 8 April with a series of attacks on junta troops and junta supporters in major cities, including Yangon.
